Expand your mosaic skills into the third dimension! You will be provided with a Styrofoam heart and base, and shown how to add a metal tube for display with a metal rod. On the first day, you reinforce the Styrofoam heart and base with thinset and fiberglass mesh and cloth, and start the design process on the heart. We will cover the design and mosaic construction, and will focus on tools and techniques for working on small structural forms. We will demonstrate how to carve the heart from scratch using the pink Styrofoam insulation board. Some stained glass and fused glass elements will be provided to cover the heart. Please bring small personal trinkets to incorporate into the heart. On the second day, you will transfer the design onto the reinforced heart and start the mosaicking process. Complete the mosaic process and grout the heart and base on your own.

About the Instructor: Wesley Wong
Wesley has had an interest in art since he was young. He took many art classes in high school and college, but graduated from University of California at Santa Barbara with a degree in computer science. He took a stained glass class in the early 1980s from a local stained glass shop owner and discovered that stained glass was the ideal medium for his creative juices. This eventually lead him into mosaics and fused glass. His work features lots of bright colors and intricate patterns and has been exhibited in many juried glass and mosaic shows throughout the United States. After 34 years in the high technology world, Wesley took an early retirement to focus on his passion for glass art. Wesley has had the opportunity to be trained by many master mosaic artists including Laurel True, Emma Biggs, Lynne Chinn, and Martin Cheek.
